The Comfort of Your Home
Green Drinks: The Local Goodness Edition is a capstone to the month-long #localgoodnessyeg campaign by The Local Good. Join us for an evening of arts and celebration of a community coming together in the face of COVID-19. We will have a line-up of poets and musicians followed by Open Mic and General Discussion breakout rooms.
Few of us have faced such challenging times in our lives, and none quite like this. COVID-19 and our "new normal" present a myriad of challenges for individuals, grassroots organizations, artists, and small-business owners alike. For oppressed and repressed peoples, these challenges already existed but are now exacerbated. The pandemic has opened more eyes to injustices that exist in our world and it is pushing us to address them.
As the climate crisis looms, COVID-19 has completely crowded out public discourse. Violence against the Earth is inherently linked to violence against black and Indigenous peoples has already killed many more than this virus. Yet governments have invested more time and resources into the pandemic response in five short months. Is it possible to use the pandemic momentum to gain perspective for climate justice and human rights? We're going to try.
Join us on May 27 from the comfort of your home, or anywhere, to find some inspiration!
Performers: Nisha Patel, Poet Laureate Shima Robinson, poet and community artist V Guzman, poet and community artist Natalia Chai, musician Naeem Gabriel, musician Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation - Fight For Hope And many more!
